I was invited to create an artwork as part of JTC’s 50th anniversary in 2018. JTC is a corporation that creates Singapore’s infrastructure. Their role has evolved significantly since it was first established.
I created an artwork in response to One-North, one of the key developments in the 2000s decade as Singapore progressed toward a knowledge-based economy.
The process of me making the artwork was filmed over 4 days and featured in a video celebrating their work across the past 50 years.
The commissioned work is displayed at Fusionopolis One@One-North.
The video can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/NYuzd3DwwUM
“I was inspired by the timeless ethos which one-north was built upon and utilised the automatic watch as a visual metaphor. Like an automatic watch, one-north is made of well-crafted parts which work together as a whole to generate vibrant energy and movement.
The work seeks to communicate the focus and efforts that JTC puts into creating not simply buildings but toward building a dynamic community. I used iconography synonymous with our time to represent the different industries here. The watch is of the present and looks toward the future. It is continually moving just like how the one-north community continually pushes boundaries within their chosen industries, with JTC as the foundation and driving force behind this unique and timeless creation.”
